Under the section 'My review work,' you can review the work submitted by your participants. This section distinguishes between exams, samples, assignments, and quizzes. In this article, we'll explain how to view and assess assignments, after first clarifying the differences between these four categories of grading work.
- Exams are, of course, the ultimate goal when it comes to completing a elective component. Because exams have the highest priority, they appear at the far left.
- Samples are random selections of assignments from a specific student who is (hopefully) nearly ready for the exam. The assignments presented in the sample are randomly chosen by the platform. Grading a sample is complete only after you've assessed all the assignments included in the sample.
- Assignments are the most common type of grading work you'll encounter because each individual assignment submitted by your participants appears here.
-
Quizzes may not be present in every learning program, but you can add them to your own course sets. You can use quizzes to test your participants' knowledge level. A quiz can consist of various types of questions, but it doesn't require participants to upload a text file. They can also be partially automatically graded (especially if you opt for multiple-choice questions).
How much do you grade?
Exams, samples, and quizzes all need to be graded, of course. The number of regular assignments you grade on the platform is up to you. It also depends on the student and the type of learning program you're using. If a motivated student is working on an elective component they handle well, it might not be necessary to grade assignments periodically. In this case, you can wait until the platform automatically offers you a sample from the participant's assignments. Another student might need more guidance, in which case you can choose to grade everything or nearly everything they submit.
From the coaching dashboard, you can click on an assignment to grade it, or you can first click on 'View All' in the 'My Grading Work' section. Then, you can check the assignments you want to grade. A 'Grade' button will appear at the bottom. Clicking on it will show you the first checked assignment. After grading it, the platform will automatically take you to the next one.
Filter
Under the heading 'Grading Work,' you'll see a button labeled 'Filter' and a button labeled 'Final Assignments.' Both buttons can be used to sort your grading work.
- The 'Filter' button offers various options. You can choose not to display assignments from colleagues who have linked to you, or only grade assignments that have a specific badge.
- Immediately below, you'll see the 'Final Assignments' button. It's a quick-filter button, meaning you can activate the filter for final assignments with just one click. This means you'll only see assignments that have the 'Final Assignment' badge.
Grading
When you click on an assignment, the detailed view of the assignment will open. That looks like this.
This detailed view is similar to what the participants see. You can read the entire assignment, which will help you with reviewing it. If you do not want to see the entire assignment, you can disable it by using the toggle in the upper left corner of your screen stating ‘show assignment description’.
With the ‘next’ button you can go all the way to the end of the assignment. Here you find the assignment handed in by the participant and download it.
By clicking on one of the tabs above the assignment you can view the core task & processes and knowledge & skills (learning objectives) connected to the assignment. You can use these as a starting point for reviewing the assignment.
You can grade the assignment by clicking on ‘Reject’ or ‘Approve’. In the feedback field you can provide feedback. Are you done with your review? Click on ‘Save grading’ to finish your review. Do you want to make some changes to your grading? Click on ‘change grading’ to do so. If you want to complete your review click on ‘Complete grading’. Your participant can now see your review in their environment.
Viewing Previous Versions
It may happen that you reject an assignment and a participant needs to submit an improved version. In such cases, it can be useful to compare the different versions and review your feedback on the rejected version. If there are multiple versions, you'll see this in the activity and can click to select a version. This allows you to view the participant's previous responses and your own assessment, as well as review any earlier feedback.
Participant view
The participant can view your grade and feedback in their environment. The participant can see right away if the assignment is accepted or rejected. When an assignment is accepted it looks like this:
Did you also provide feedback? The participant can read this by clicking on the assignment. A bar will appear on the top of the screen which states if the assignment is approved or rejected. It also contains a button stating ‘feedback’. If the participant clicks on this button, your feedback will be shown.
If the assignment is rejected, the participant can redo the assignment and hand it in again. When the participant uploads a new file, the status of the assignment will change from rejected to ‘handed in’.
Frequently asked questions:
-
Why is there a lock icon on my screen?
The lock appears when you no longer have an active subscription. Without a subscription you lose access to the functionalities of the platform. Renew your subscription to regain access. -
Are there answer sheets available for the courses?
No, we do not have documentation available that contain the answers to the assignments. Most of our assignments are created in such a way that multiple answers can be correct. The assignments focus on the learning process and interpretation of the participant rather than a right or wrong answer. Each assignment is linked to a (number of) learning objectives. You can use these as a starting point to review the assignment. Some assignments also contain a coach instruction with some additional tools. -
In the random sample that takes place before the exam my previous reviews are not shown, why is this?
It is correct that when reviewing the sample you will not see any previous reviews. This is necessary because the sample is a complete separate part. The purpose of the random sample is to check whether the participant is ready for the final assignment. Because some coaches choose not to review any assignments during the course, we work with the sample as a final check. -
Do I have to review an assignment before my participant receives the XP points?
No, you don’t have to. The XPs are automatically given when the participant hands in an assignment. If you reject the assignment the XPs will automatically be reduced.
